NZQA approved micro-credentials designed to build practical skills and create a pathway towards an ICNZB awarded Diploma in Bookkeeping.
For more than ten years, ICNZB has advocated for bookkeeping to be recognised as a profession in its own right. We are proud to announce the launch of our first two NZQA-approved micro-credentials, developed in partnership with Skills Institute.
Working closely with Skills Institute, these micro-credentials have been built around the standards, scenarios and day-to-day realities of professional New Zealand bookkeeping. Together, we have created learning that reflects the work bookkeepers do every day and supports the high professional standards our members uphold.
These are not simply two new qualifications. They represent the recognition of our profession, our collective expertise, and the vital contribution bookkeepers make to New Zealand businesses every day.
About the micro-credentials....
Micro-credential 1: Basic Accounting Principles & Software
NZQA Level 3 · 15 credits · ~ 15 weeks · Online
A genuine entry point into a bookkeeping career pathway. Best suited to staff new to bookkeeping, virtual assistants, office administrators taking on financial tasks — or anyone who has learned on the job and wants to formalise that knowledge.
$0 enrolment for the August and September 2026 intakes — (value standard fee $300 + GST).
Micro-credential 2: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Taxation for Small to Medium Size Business
NZQA Level 3 · 23 credits · ~ 20 weeks · Online
The credential built for the day-to-day work of an SME bookkeeper. Best suited to practising bookkeepers, accounts administrators, finance assistants, trades office managers, and small business owners managing their own books. It validates real-world experience with practical, applied assessments — not theoretical exams.
