Meet ICNZB Certified Bookkeeper™, Rachel Paterson.

Rachel has been a member since August 2017 and is based in Northland.

Rachel Paterson got into bookkeeper after a friend asked for help setting up their business and dealing with the "books".  This led to another, then another and so Conduit Bookkeeping was born in August 2017.  After an impressive career which has included a stint in the Navy, working in radio and television advertising and operating a small automotive workshop - she has found her calling.

Rachel joined ICNZB in 2017 as a Certified Bookkeeper and is a highly engaged member in our Northland region - including volunteering as the co-Northland Regional Director for the last few years.

We recently asked Rachel some questions about her bookkeeping journey; the best advice she has ever received and a few "icebreaker" questions.  Here is what she had to say:

Why did you become a bookkeeper?

After years of working for other people and organisations, I wanted more flexibility in my life to do things that were important to me - like spending time with my family, travelling & living in different places. Now I can work from anywhere and at any time – I can work around my family and other things I wanted to do with my life.”

What do you enjoy most about bookkeeping?

Digging in and finding out the how or why a transaction happened – I call it forsenic bookkeeping. And developing systems or processes to remove pain points – businesses operating in a state of chaos with poor systems and almost no processes need help to streamline their work & information flows.”

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

A business with systems and processes is most valuable when it allows a business owner to step away and focus on the big picture."

You have to sing karaoke, what song do you pick and why?

Don’t forget your roots - Six60. It’s a reminder of my proud Kiwi heritage.”

If you had to delete all but 3 apps from your smartphone, which ones would you keep?

Emails, bank account, Facebook.”

The zombie apocalypse is coming, who are 3 people you want on your team?

Chris Hemsworth, Dwyane ‘The Rock’ Johnson, and my best friend Kaza."

What sport would you compete in if you were in the Olympics?

Mexican Grandstand Wave Cheer Starter."
