Meet ICNZB Certified Bookkeeper™, Donna King. 

Donna has been a member since March 2019 and is based in Auckland.

Donna King started Smart Bookkeeping in 2003 after a job interview, she had asked the office person that was interviewing her why she was leaving if the job was as good as she said it was. She said she was going to start contract bookkeeping, well that was a light bulb moment for Donna who realised that there was nothing stopping her from doing that either. 

Donna joined ICNZB in 2019 as a Certified Bookkeeper and has been a very active member - she has been a member of our Executive Committee since 2020 and has been the liaison person for the Regional Director team. 

We recently asked Donna some questions about her bookkeeping journey; the best advice she has ever received and a few "icebreaker" questions.  Here is what she had to say:

Why did you become a bookkeeper?

I have always enjoyed finding out why things are done the way they are, I started my Bookkeeping business when my oldest son started school so that I could be at home for him.”

What do you enjoy most about bookkeeping?

I love helping clients understand how everything works and to make their lives easier in the long run.”

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

This is your business. You get to create it the way that works for you ~ Stephanie Crawford."

What is your favorite time of the day and why?

6am - Everyone is asleep and the alarm hasn’t gone off yet so I can sneakily read my book without any interruptions.”

The zombie apocalypse is coming, who are 3 people you want on your team?

Have to say my husband because he can break in anywhere. My oldest son because he is fiercely protective. And my youngest for the hugs.”

If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be?

Rarotonga - love the laid back atmosphere and the people."

If you had to delete all but 3 apps from your smartphone, which ones would you keep?

Kindle - I love reading at any time of the day or night. Facebook - I have to see what everyone is cooking for dinner. Spotify - To block out the noises my Husband can make while I’m trying to work."
